This year we started our deer hunting season with a youth hunter. Travis Dazel brought his son, Cole, out to the farm to hunt. Cole got his nice doe on Saturday (Oct. 19) in the latter part of the afternoon. We helped him track it and find his deer a bit, as we know the woods on the farm. Cole did a very good job and earned his deer.

This year our group has eleven people (Glenn, Arlan, Jared, Tim, Shannon, Tom (and Morgan), Shawn, Tony, Little Tony, Dave, and Scott). Opening day (Saturday the 9th) we shot 4 deer in the morning and no more the rest of the day. Then Sunday the 10th we shot no deer. So for the first weekend we had still had only 4 deer hanging.

Monday the 11th I got a chance to shoot a buck at about the noon hour just north of my house.

It was a cold day, started out at 6 degrees and got to about maybe 14 degrees (felt like 0). Again on Monday, the long, long walk around the Hofstad tree line left us with nothing, so we ended the day with only my goofy small racked 5 point buck. We are wondering how many deer are the wolf and cougar eating anyway! Tuesday the 12th we shot no deer, but had fun with a nice buck outside our deer shack while having coffee - there is a story here. Wednesday the 13th we shot 1 deer. Wednesday night Jared hit a deer with his pickup and we hung that one up. We shot 1 deer on Friday the 15th.
On Saturday the 16th we got 2 more nice deer (a buck and a doe). It was a good day every day of hunting!

We cut up our deer meat on Sunday the 17th instead of hunting that day. A total of 10 deer for the season with 2 adult bucks (which were 116 & 124 pounds each, gutted), 5 adult does and 3 fawns.

Stop by the Hofstad camp, we are in Mabel's old trailer house hanging out if we aren't out in the woods somewhere. We have stories to tell and food/drink to share.
