This year we started our deer hunting season with Travis Dazel doing a little archery hunting. Travis got a deer and we were unable to track and find it. He saw a few deer and let us know that there are promising deer for us out there. Travis did find a deer that the neighboring Hanson family archery shot on their property and it ran to ours and died.

This year our group has twelve people (Glenn, Arlan, Jared, Tim, Shannon, Tom, Morgan, Little Tony, Matthew, Dave, Scott and Harlan) with guests Scott Weiberg and his wife.

Matthew and his deer
Opening day (Saturday the 5th) Shannon (124lb., 7 point) and Dave (126lb., 6 point) shot bucks about 8:30am to start off the rifle season. In the late afternoon Tom (124lb., 2 point) shot a buck with Orin's 22-250. Me, Jared and Glenn had to go have birthday party for Leif tonight. Others hung out for a bit at the shack and turned in a bit early tonight (time change tonight).

Dave 2015
On Sunday the 6th, Tom (142lb., 6 point) shot another buck with Orin's 22-250. We went to eat dinner at the Nazareth church and had a great meal of mashed potatoes and meatballs. Oh, ya gotta eat some more meatballs - we always like the Nazareth deer hunter's meal. Tim (56lb., doe) shot a small anterless deer this afternoon and Jared (74lb., nub) shot a nub buck late afternoon by Center Street. We had 6 deer hanging by the end of the weekend. We spent time telling stories and visiting at the shack this evening.
Jared and his deer
Monday the 7th, We had about half of our hunting crew. We could not go through the Hofstad north property as we have in the past as neighboring hunters were still hunting this Monday. They have left usually in the past. So we hunted other spots. It was a slow day for seeing deer were we can hunt. Later in the afternoon Shannon (105lb., doe) found a deer by the edge of the corn and made the shot.

We have had all good shots this year so far - near the head, neck or front shoulder. We will have good meat from these!

Tuesday the 8th, no deer shot here today.

Wednesday the 9th, no deer shot here today.

Shannon nub buck  Shannon tagging buck
Thursday the 10th, Shannon (78lb., nub buck) got a nub buck in the woods north of Arlan's house.

Friday the 11th, Morgan (66lb., doe fawn) shot a deer south of Glenn's house grove. He was happy to get it as a few people had shot at this deer. This fawn walked around in the field for about a half hour and was shot at 14 times prior to finally being chased out of the grove and being found by Morgan.

Saturday the 12th, Arlan (65lb., doe fawn) shot a deer up north in Aaron's woods as we were chasing it to the north and it went out the side so Arlan could step out and get a shot.

Sunday the 13th, the last day of MN rifle deer hunting for our area. Scott found and shot a doe fawn after we processed our deer meat from the rest of the week. We started cutting about 8:30am and we were done at about 3:30pm with cleanup and all that. It was a nice day with warm fall temperature, no snow to be seen this deer hunting season. There is a storm supposedly coming the following Thursday, so Scott Weberg left early this am to get back to California in front of the storm. Tony will leave for Arizona the following Sunday, so he has all week to visit and help in the farm.

Dad's shack  Dad's shack again
Dad and I built Dad a new shack to hunt from this year. He did not get a chance to shoot a deer from it this year but he sat and enjoyed the outdoors from it many times. It is a nice warm cozy place. Now we will try watching for small game for the winter a bit too!
